On December 19, 2016, The Rising Stars 7th Grade Queens Team attended The Carmelo Anthony Foundation, A Very Melo Christmas, an annual holiday event that rewards 200 deserving middle school students from local organizations who answer the essay question “How have you displayed the Be-More attitude in your family and/ or community?” with a fun holiday activity.
The Be-More attitude is defined as “an attitude of determination to be more than the world around you says you are. It is the unselfish attitude to give of yourself and your time to help someone else.
Our Rising Stars walked the red carpet took pictures and joined Carmelo Anthony for a pre- opening day screening of the movie, “Sing”. What an exciting night!
Rising Stars Teams spent some time this week talking about the value of gratitude. They wrote cards to their parents thanking them for being their biggest fans, driving them to games, filling their water bottles, getting them to practice on time, cleaning their uniforms and most of all – supporting their passion for the sport of basketball.
They presented their parents with the cards along with Rising Stars FAMILY shirts in a festive Rising Stars gift bag. The kids felt good about being thankful and the parents were touched. Once again, Rising Stars shows that we are about SO MUCH MORE than just basketball!
The Rising Stars Honor Roll is assembled each semester to recognize our student athletes for their academic achievements. The following children made the honor roll within his or her respective school. Congratulations to all of these student athletes for their hard work in the classroom.
