Super Day for Rising Stars Athletes

February 5, 2017 was a SUPER day for Rising Stars Student Athletes who decided to spend their SUPER BOWL SUNDAY helping others. The kids participated in the Meals from the Heart Program at the Ronald McDonald House of Long Island, preparing a home-cooked dinner and making craft kits for the 80 people staying there. Families stay at Ronald McDonald House of Long Island so that they can be near their children who are receiving care at Cohen’s Children’s Hospital. On Monday morning, while most people were discussing football, here is what our Rising Stars players were talking about:

“I’m so glad I was able help by just making at least one meal with my friends. I hope the families were able to enjoy at least one meal that weekend. The experience makes me appreciate what I have. It also makes me feel good and makes me want to help more often.” ~Abby

“I was very happy that I had the opportunity to help and feed the families of the children who were unfortunately in the hospital. While I was in the Ronald McDonald house I figured out how blessed I am to be healthy and it made me want to volunteer more in the future.” ~Autumn

“My experience at the Ronald McDonald House was unforgettable. I felt so special to be helping out people who don’t have it as good as we do. I realized how lucky I am to have the life that I have. Also, being there with my teammates made the experience even more amazing. When we were all done cooking up the dinner and people were going to eat, it made me feel like I really helped someone that day. This day is an experience I will cherish forever.” ~Riley R.

“Before this event was arranged by Rising Stars, I didn’t know that Ronald McDonald House provided a temporary home for out-of-town and out-of-country families who have a child in need of special medical care for low or no cost. I didn’t know either that the House is designed in such a bright, positive clean and super fun way to make the children feel comfortable and distracted from their or their sibling’s medical problems. Nor did I know that Ronald McDonald House allowed parents to be just steps away from their children while they are having surgery or getting treatment. In fact, I had never even heard of Ronald McDonald House. But now I know so many more things than I did before I spent just a few hours there. I know that I appreciate how healthy my family and I are, am inspired to tell people about the amazing things that Ronald McDonald House and Rising Stars are doing, and want to do more volunteer work.“ ~Riley F.
