ABRACADABRA! Rising Stars Presents: Magic & Math Program

Our 6th and 7th grade Queens and Bayshore Teams have incorporated Math & Magic into their weekly tutoring sessions before practice. With the help of talented magician, Rising Stars volunteer Seth Rosen, the kids are learning magic tricks that are livening up their math lessons. Seth’s visits have taught Rising Stars students how magic can create a sense of wonder and curiosity about math. Not only that, magic creates a new context for reasoning as students go beyond traditional learning.

Rising Stars Attend Carmelo Anthony Foundation Event

picture1On December 19, 2016, The Rising Stars 7th Grade Queens Team attended The Carmelo Anthony Foundation, A Very Melo Christmas, an annual holiday event that rewards 200 deserving middle school students from local organizations who answer the essay question “How have you displayed the Be-More attitude in your family and/ or community?” with a fun holiday activity.

The Be-More attitude is defined as “an attitude of determination to be more than the world around you says you are. It is the unselfish attitude to give of yourself and your time to help someone else.

Our Rising Stars walked the red carpet took pictures and joined Carmelo Anthony for a pre- opening day screening of the movie, “Sing”. What an exciting night!

Hearts & Hoops Holiday Community Service Event

Tonight’s Hearts & Hoops Holiday Community Service Event was a big success! Teams learned that little things can make a BIG difference by making hot cocoa care packages for families with sick kids at Ronald McDonald House, stuffing socks with comfort items for the homeless, inflating balls for a toy drive, decorating cards for homebound seniors, and writing letters of gratitude to our troops serving abroad.
We are so proud of our student athletes for giving their time to help others during this holiday season!
