RISING STARS TRAINING: DEVELOPMENT FOR YOUR ATHLETES BOTH ON AND OFF THE COURT
Training is an important part of the Rising Stars curriculum as it helps to reinforce the value of working towards a goal and the importance of having a work ethic. The training programs are under the direction of Rising Stars Executive Director Dan Gimpel. Dan is both a Rising Stars alumni and a recipient of that training. States Gimpel, “We view our training programs as extensions of what our children learn in school and at home and we balance training with an understanding of what they are training for and why. Results of participation in the training programs have consistently shown a marked improvement in both individual skills and the understanding of team concepts. These improvements have had a carryover effect in school and have translated into players making travel and high school teams and going on to play at the collegiate level.
In addition to offering instructional camps and clinics throughout the year, Rising Stars offers specialized skills and position training for both individuals and teams and are helpful for players and coaches, alike. Our trainers have backgrounds in playing, coaching and teaching the game on the High School, Collegiate or Professional levels. Our training sessions offer the highest quality of instruction available anywhere in the area. These sessions are available to any player that tries out for a Rising Stars team or that attends a Rising Stars camp or clinic. Special arrangements are also available for out-of-state/overseas teams or players that wish to use our services.
The history of our training programs is rooted in the national Nike coach’s clinics conducted by Rising Stars founder Paul Savramis that were the base of the Rising Stars instructional basketball clinics. These clinics were among the most innovative sessions around and applied the same teaching techniques used at NBA preseason training combines today. The Rising Stars training system has also been featured at the Michael Jordan camps, Walt Disney Sports and as a part of training seminars in 24 states, across Europe, the Caribbean and Canada. Training is offered to groups or as part of private or semi-private sessions. Many of the techniques used are unique to Rising Stars and were instrumental in the development of 48 past and current NBA players including Jay Williams, Joakim Noah, Kyrie Irving, and Randy Foye. Arizona coach Sean Miller was also a part of our training program and the first of the Whiz Kids ball handling and shooting travel team seen on the Tonight show and featured at NBA half time shows.
